If you've ever had a scare where you feared for your pet's health or even their life, then you know how important knowing pet first aid can be. Twice as many dogs die from injury, accident or illness than die from old-age and it is up to you as a pet owner to do everything in your power to keep your dog safe and healthy.
My 13-year-old niece was recently home alone with her two dogs when she faced this scary situation. In a panic she called her grandmother who lives 30 miles away. When you are scared it is hard to think straight or to figure out what to do. But having knowledge can help make this frightful time not quite so traumatic.
Fortunately for my niece, it turned out to not be all that serious and her dog wasn't really "bleeding to death" from a cut above his eye. But what if it had been more serious? She didn't know what to do. She didn't have a way to take him anywhere. And the closest relative was too far away to help out in an emergency. He could have died ... and it could have been simply because of lack of knowledge.
The first five minutes after your dog becomes ill or gets injured are the most critical ... and what YOU know or don’t know in regards to pet first aid can mean the difference between THEIR life and death. Would you know what to do in an emergency ... if your dog was injured or became sick?
